Journaling Prompts
There’s something interesting in the idea of getting different reflection or journaling prompts every day. It’s cool to have certain journaling prompts to respond to every day, like what you’re grateful for, or what your wins were that day. But that can get kind of stale. And it can leave blind spots. There might be angles or areas you never get around to looking at.
I’ve gotten into the habit of using an app called Cactus which gives me a different prompt for reflection every day. Sadly, Cactus is shutting down soon. But there’s something really cool about having a different question or prompt float into your consciousness every day.
One thing I didn’t love about Cactus was that my writing was inside the app and not connected to anything else. It would be cool to get prompts like this within a broader more general purpose app like Roam.
What else is out there along these lines? Brandon Toner has a cool idea of building up journaling prompts in Roam and cycling through them. This seems very promising, so I’ll be trying it. It would be interesting to have a way to have a different prompt surfaced each day automatically. But I suppose one could also just scroll through and pick one every day. Regardless, seeking out and responding to different reflection prompts every day seems like a good practice to follow.
